What are your current goals and why?

My overarching aspiration is to compete in CrossFit, at whatever capacity I am someday able to. Ever since I stopped playing tennis in college due to some hip surgeries, I was unable to fully recover from it at the time. I’ve had a competitive itch that I haven’t quite been able to satisfy. All my short term/minor goals: improving my overall nutrition for optimal athletic performance; getting leaner; maintaining/improving my strength; improving my gymnastic capabilities, are all derived from my current weaknesses in CrossFit that I feel will most benefit my ability to become the best athlete I can be.

What keeps you motivated?

Ever since I watched the 2020 CrossFit Games, I instantly fell in love with the sport and knew it was something I could participate in that would give me the best opportunity to better myself and become the athlete I had always wanted to be. That initial feeling of awe I had watching those athletes compete is something I hold onto, and I constantly envision myself competing in that same situation. Upon finding Golden Goose CrossFit and meeting Kyle, I knew I had found a place where I could foster my potential. Through Kyle, I was able to discover the All-Tru program, which has helped me build a self-esteem I haven’t had since I was a child. Between my own family, the family I have come to know at Golden Goose, and the All-Tru family, I have developed an incredible support system that helps motivate me day in and out to pursue my goals.

Why is it important to you to live a healthy lifestyle?

Being in a health profession myself, I see the effect living a healthy, or unhealthy, lifestyle can have on an individual. Living a healthy lifestyle allows me to not only be at my best physically, but also mentally, which is essential for me to be able to help others in my profession. Living a healthy lifestyle allows me to feel my best so that I can perform at my fullest in both my workouts and in my occupation. One of my main focuses is on longevity; I want to be able to do CrossFit and work in my profession in a healthy state for a long period of time. I’ve noticed in general when living a healthier lifestyle, I feel better and experience reduced injuries, which is extremely important to me to allow me to be active late into life.

What is your most memorable experience in this program?

My most memorable experience so far was about a month ago, when my mom asked me how much I weighed, and I said I wasn’t sure, but I felt good. I have had a lot of self-confidence issues in the past related to my weight, and to be frank I am pretty neurotic about weighing myself frequently to make sure I’m staying on track with what I’m doing physically and nutritionally. Through this program, I have gained an incredible amount of confidence in myself, my body, and my physical capabilities. I have become more aware of gaining internal validation and focusing on how I feel and how I am able to perform as opposed to the number on the scale. This change in mindset has been the most important thing to me, and has really helped me give all my attention solely to performing my best in both my workouts and profession, even if it means eating a few extra calories or carbohydrates on the day.

BRIGHT SPOTS. Hype up your accomplishments, what are you most proud of so far since starting the program?

I’ve cumulatively lost 20lbs since the start of my program 3 months ago, currently weighing under 200lbs for the first time in about 4 years. I recently participated in a fundraiser event at Golden Goose CrossFit to support some of the members who are going to the semifinals and took 3rd place in the event. I have also been able to improve my 1RM’s on all my Olympic Lifts as well as my deadlift which I PR ’ed by 50lbs and maintain my 1RM’s on my back squat and bench press while losing 20lbs. Overall, I’m very proud of myself for committing to making a change for the better and sticking to it. I haven’t been this happy with my body in a long time, and now that I don’t have to worry about being perceived as unfit, I’m ready to take on the world.
